Railway Alignment Expert
Morpheous is seeking a Railway Alignment Expert to join its India team to assist with current and exciting future projects. We are looking for a professional who enjoy working with people in a multidisciplinary team environment and strive for excellence. Ideally, you would be an expert with more than 15 years of experience in railway bridges/flyovers/tunnels and have experience in the review of geometric design, earthworks, hydrology, structures and have experience in undertaking value engineering exercises.
Location : Asia (India)
Field : Civil/Railway Engineering
Experience Level : 15+
Type of Contract : Permanent
Key Responsibilities
• Horizontal Alignment Review: Review minimum curve radii, transition curve lengths, and compliance with specified design speeds (120/160 km/h). Check for unnecessary deviations and optimization potential. Develop optimized alignment options through value engineering where required
• Vertical Alignment Review: Verify gradients, vertical curve lengths, and suitability for both passenger and heavy freight operations. Ensure adequate sight distances are achieved. Evaluate design for gap analysis and optimization
• Cant and Superelevation: Scrutinize calculation and application of cant (superelevation) for curves to ensure safe and comfortable travel, checking for permissible deficiencies and excesses
• Clearance Envelopes: Confirm that kinematic envelope for rolling stock is maintained throughout alignment, especially in tunnels, under bridges, and through stations
• Alignment Optimization: Review DED in line with DED-Consultant TOR requirements, evaluate design for gap analysis and optimization. Propose revised layouts and alternative solutions where efficiency, safety, or lifecycle performance can be improved
• Survey and Investigation Review: Review topographic surveys, geological investigations, and field data supporting alignment decisions. Identify any gaps requiring additional surveys
• Earthworks and Embankment Integration: Review alignment's integration with embankment design, cut/fill optimization, and geotechnical constraints
• Bridge and Structure Interfaces: Ensure alignment properly interfaces with all bridges, culverts, overpasses, and underpasses along the corridor
• Station and Yard Integration: Verify alignment accommodates station platforms, yard layouts, and operational requirements
• Environmental and Social Considerations: Review alignment from perspective of minimizing land acquisition, avoiding sensitive areas, and reducing environmental/social impacts
• Value Engineering: Propose alternative alignment options that reduce costs, improve constructability, or enhance operational performance while maintaining safety and design standards
• Finalization and Tender Documentation: Be responsible for finalization of detailed engineering design of alignment, preparation of tender drawings. Conduct any additional surveys or investigations required
