Key Responsibilities
• Bridge and Culvert Inventory Verification: Verify completeness and accuracy of DED Consultant's inventory for all bridges, culverts, ROBs, RRBs, foot-over bridges (FOBs), and other structures. Evaluate proposed reconstruction, rehabilitation, closure, reuse, or new construction plans and confirm technical justification
• Design Standards Compliance: Review adherence to approved Design Basis Report (DBR), Design Criteria, Railways standards/specifications, and applicable codes. Validate structural loading assumptions including seismic, hydrological, train-induced dynamic forces, fatigue, and lateral loads
• Superstructure and Substructure Design: Independently check design of superstructure and substructure components including girders, decks, slabs, piers, abutments, wing walls, parapets, and bearings. Confirm adequacy of materials, reinforcement, safety factors, and robustness under heavy freight operations
• Protection Works Assessment: Assess proposed protection works against hill torrents, flooding, and erosion
• Foundation Verification: Validate soil investigations, geotechnical parameters, and foundation recommendations. Review foundation type selection (shallow, piles, caissons, rafts) and confirm adequacy under design loads and ground conditions. Assess settlement, liquefaction, and stability risks
• Rehabilitation and Strengthening Review: Check condition survey results and NDT (if performed) for accuracy and completeness. Review retrofitting/strengthening proposals for material compatibility, structural adequacy, and extended service life. Verify rehabilitation measures meet safety and durability requirements
• Protection and Ancillary Systems: Evaluate designs for scour protection, retaining walls, slope stabilization, water training structures, flood protection systems, and erosion control. Confirm compatibility with hydrological and geotechnical conditions
• Interface Coordination: Ensure coordination of structural designs with final alignment, track platform levels, drainage plans, utilities, and roadway interfaces. Identify and report conflicts, omissions, or constructability issues
• BOQ and Specifications Review: Review construction drawings for accuracy, completeness, and coordination. Validate BOQ quantities and alignment with design drawings and specifications. Ensure specifications are technically sound, clear, and aligned with project standards
• Constructability and Durability Assessment: Assess constructability, durability, and long-term maintenance implications of bridge designs
• Deficiency Reporting: Identify inconsistencies, errors, omissions, or non-compliance in DED submissions. Provide written comments with technical justification to Client and DED Consultant. If requested by Client, carry out design corrections or alternative assessments
